The one where I became a mother.
I sought the Lord.
He heard.
He answered.
Again.
A promise keeper.
After experiencing the heartbreak of miscarriage, I did everything I could to make sure I would never have to walk through that kind of loss again. Then, to our surprise, we found out we were expecting.
Again.
I was overwhelmed with gratitude. The Lord had answered another prayer. Yet, alongside the excitement came a fear I couldn’t seem to silence.
“What if it happens again?”
“I don’t know if I can walk through another loss.”
For the first three months of my pregnancy, those thoughts followed me everywhere.
Every cramp.
Every nosebleed.
Every unfamiliar feeling.
Fear had convinced me that history was about to repeat itself. I found myself taking pregnancy test after pregnancy test, desperately hoping that two pink lines could give me the peace my heart couldn’t seem to find. One afternoon, after another nosebleed and another wave of cramping, I rushed into Target. I grabbed another box of pregnancy tests, hurried into the restroom, and waited.
Positive.
Again.
The test was positive, but my heart wasn’t at peace. I realized how much fear had taken hold of me. I was spending money trying to buy reassurance that only God could give. Then the Lord spoke to me.
“This is the last pregnancy test you will take. Do you trust Me with this pregnancy or not?”
I heard Him loud and clear. That day, I walked out of Target and never bought another pregnancy test. Was I tempted? Absolutely. Did every fear immediately disappear? No. There were still moments when anxiety whispered that something might go wrong. There were still days when the memories of loss felt closer than the joy of expectation. But every time fear invited me to take control again, I remembered what the Lord had spoken.
This pregnancy had never been in my hands to sustain. It had always been in His. I didn’t know what tomorrow would hold, but I knew the One who would hold me no matter what tomorrow brought.
So each morning, I thanked Him.
“Thank You, Lord, for another day with this precious life You have entrusted to us.
Thank You for today.”
One day at a time.
Nine months later, I held our beautiful baby girl in my arms for the very first time. What a gift. What a testimony of the Lord’s faithfulness. Parenthood has completely transformed my life in ways I never could have imagined. Every sleepless night, every laugh, every milestone, every tiny hand wrapped around my finger has reminded me that our Father is kind.
Twenty-eight, you thought faith meant never feeling afraid. But faith isn’t the absence of fear. It’s choosing to trust your Father while fear is still whispering in your ear.
Day by day.
Prayer by prayer.
He proved Himself faithful once again.
